Prosphora Baker – We are still looking for one more dedicated individual who would like to help bake the Church Bread – we will train!

Do you enjoy photography and working with websites? We’re looking for a volunteer to help maintain our church’s online photo gallery by gathering photos, uploading them to the website, and creating galleries of church events and activities. If you’re interested in helping share our church community’s special moments, contact our webmaster, Nicholas Tamraz, at webmaster@stmarymagdalenechurch.org

Sing with the Choir – You are invited to sing (with the Choir and Choir Director) The Troparion and Kontakion for St. Mary Magdalene, as well as the Creed and the Our Father.

The Parish Council has voted to enlarge the use of the hall by removing the wall between the parish hall and the utility classroom/ child center. This will help achieve the needed space in the hall to accommodate our rapid growth.

Flowers – Please sign up on the bulletin board to provide flowers in the church, especially for Church feast days. Contact Diane Holmes for questions etc. Thank you so much!

How to address your Priest when you are emailing or texting me.  Often I get greetings like “Yo Father” or “Hey Father!” Priests in the Orthodox Church have received a special dignity on the day of their ordination. We are not more important but we do carry something special charism that allows Christ to be present in our community. I am not particularly offended or put out. I know that younger people have simply not been taught well about showing respect. What I don’t want is for you to refer to another priest that way and he finds out you attend St. Mary Magdalene Mission in Atwater. He may not be so tolerant! When writing me or texting please simply say “Hello Father or “Dear Father.” If you are daring, you also may refer to me as Your All-Holiness LAWRENCE Patriarch of Atwater and the Tri-State area.

Diocesan Assembly – I want to thank this community for allowing me (financially) to attend the Diocesan Assembly in Colorado Springs. It was probably the best assembly I have attended as our business was short and more emphasis was placed on fellowship and education. I also got to see one of my great teachers from seminary Paul Meyendorff. In many of our parishes Priest can experience isolation. The assembly allows us clergy to get to gather and compare notes and experiences. The younger Priests also get to meet older more experienced Priests. Other great experiences;

  • Beautiful Liturgy with our Bishop in a beautiful temple.
  • Snow on Pikes Peak and the surrounding mountains.
  • Seeing old friends
  • Spending an afternoon in Calhan eating Slovak food!
  • Clean fresh fall crisp air.
  • Did not cost the church much – no flight or hotel!
  • Six hours of expert instruction on the Book of Revelation – it is not what many of us understand – it is not about the End Times (that I knew, but now in a deeper manner).
  • Excellent Leadership all day worship (TPP) on developing parish leaders – we will go slowly but try and develop more parish leaders.
  • Colorado was great to visit – many memories – my home is now with all of you!

 Help with noise and distraction – if your child is crying and or having a meltdown – please take your child to the narthex or the church hall so as to minimize noise and distraction. As our community continues to grow this will become more and more necessary.
